All members are hereby invited to attend and take an active part in this meeting to ensure that the decision-making process is fair and representative of majority of the Members of the Association.

This is also a forum for members to speak openly about any concerns regarding the ZSFA and voice their interests in the future of the ZSFA by providing ideas on improvements to ensure the continued success of the Association. (Raised in the AOB Forum).

At the meeting, members will be asked to:

Accept the minutes of the last annual general meeting as a true and correct record of the proceedings of that meeting
Adopt the various reports as presented
Propose and nominate Members of the Executive Committee for 2023

Department of Fisheries - Fishing License

Dear All,

As an angler you are required to have a fishing license. These are obtained from the blue building at fisheries opposite Munda Wanga in Chilanga. You need to go to the office and request for a fishing license, K500 for the year or K85 for the month. You will be given a deposit slip (no swipe facilities currently available) which you take to the bank located at the service station next to Lafarge and deposit the money then go back to the fisheries office and complete the application. They will ask to see your ID (NRC is best otherwise you might get charged foreigner rates).

Lusaka Angling Centre & ZSFA Online Migration

Dear Members,

As of end of last year, the Lusaka Angling Centre no longer has a physical store and have opted to go Virtual with a collection point from Longacres, Lusaka.

This means that going forward, all ZSFA Members must be registered on the Members' Website platform (zambiafishing.org) and payments can only be made either via Bank Transfer or Direct Deposit into the ZSFA Bank Account. No Cash Payments will be accepted.

Receipts and Member Cards will be generated and made available online on your respective member pages; as we, as a Committee have decided to Go Environmentally Friendly and Paperless.

We therefore urge ALL Members to ensure that the Membership subscription is fully paid up prior to the respective Competitions.

All Competition organisers will have to confirm in advance if participants are active paid up members, as a pre-requisite to participate in the affiliated competitions.

ZAMBIA ANNUAL FISHING BAN FOR 2019-2020

Dear Members,

As of December 1, 2019, the Zambian Government has banned fishing activities in all water bodies across Zambia except Lake Kariba and Lake Tanganyika.

The Ban will be lifted on February 29, 2020.

Furthermore, the Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Nkandu Luo has also indicated that the Government would on January 1, 2020 also effect a ban on Lake Kariba and Tanganyika after a Statutory Instrument (SI) to that effect has been put in place.

The Minister says her Ministry Team will embark on sporadic inspections on all checkpoints and water bodies to ensure that no one abrogates the LAW.

We urge all our members to take note of the ban and comply accordingly.

The ZSFA is holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, 16th March 2019 at CHRISMAR HOTEL.

We have changed the date from our usual last Saturday of February because the first International fishing competition starts on the 24th of Feb and we need to have all the Internationals Team Members attend the AGM. The Weekend of the 9th of March is a long weekend.

All members are invited to attend and to take an active part in discussion to ensure that the decision-making process is fair and representative of the whole Association. It is an opportunity for members to voice their interests in the future of the ZSFA.

It is also an opportunity to recruit ‘new blood’ onto the Committee. The ZSFA needs fresh new faces on the Committee with fresh new ideas to ensure the continued success of the Association.

The Executive Committee wishes you all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year! Here is to a Fish-filled 2018!!!

During the last ZSFA Executive Committee Meeting, it was discussed that due to a number of factors such as inflation, ability to offer improved services and offerings, and to support the growth of the organisation; it was resolved that effective January 1, 2018, there will be changes in the Membership Fees as follows:

Child Membership (Under 16) - Individual membership type - Free
Couple membership - Bundle membership type (up to 2 members) - K750.00 (ZMW)
Individual membership (16 and Older) - Individual membership type - K500.00 (ZMW)
Temporary Membership (Non-Resident per Comp) - Individual membership type/ per competition - K300.00 (ZMW)

Furthermore, the Executive Committee also resolved to introduce an exciting new Membership type: Premium Membership (16 and Older)- Individual membership type - K1,500.00 (ZMW).

This Premium Membership, when rolled, out will offer the benefits of a Basic membership PLUS access to so much more- such as Discounts on participating Lodges and Fishing Tackle Shops. We will provide more information on the benefits of this Membership in our first edition of our Newsletter soon!

Announcement 2017 AGM and Subscription Fees

Dear Member,

The Executive Committee wishes you all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year and fish-filled 2017.

The 2017 Annual General Meeting shall be held as follows:

Venue is the Chrismar Hotel on Los Angeles Bvld. This is between the Lusaka Golf Club and Lusaka Club.
Date is Saturday 25th February 2017 starting at 1400 hrs.
Fisheries and Inland Waterways have been invited and are expected to attend.

Many thanks to the Chrismar Hotel for agreeing to host our 2017 AGM and for agreeing to waive their room booking rate. For our members who live outside Lusaka the Chrismar is also offering reduced room rates.

There will be a cash bar for Members and there will be snacks available.

The agenda will be posted and made available to Members nearer to the time.

In terms of 2017 Membership Subscriptions the Executive Committee are delighted to announce our decision to freeze 2016 rates for 2017. There will be no 2017 rise in subscriptions. Times are hard but 2016 was a good year for the ZSFA and we hope this continues into 2017.

Zambezi All Species Results

The Zambezi All Species went ahead as planned on 19th to 21st August at Gwaabi Lodge. Although attendance was slightly low by historical standards the tournament was hugely enjoyed with some great fish caught and some excellent prizes won!!

A total 352 fish were caught under the new format, of which 300 were released back into the river alive and well. A remarkable 85% return rate and congratulations to all the competitors for being true to the catch and release spirit of the event.

Some notable fish were caught during the event and well done to the anglers that not only caught these fish but returned them alive.....to be caught again another day:

Mike Streeter: 10 point and 7 point Cornish Jacks (that's about 11 kg and 8 kg respectively).

Stu Mackay: 30 point and 20 point Tiger Fish (around 5.5 kg and 4 kg respectively)

Benji Cocker (Jnr Angler) for a 1.512 kg Nkupe

Mick Kennedy for two large Eastern Bottlenose

The top five teams, with the winning team being a family team for the first time in many years, are as follows:

1. Team Fish On comprising Rod Mackay, Staley McKay, Anna-Leigh Mckay (Jnr) and Kara Mackay. Day One - 174.98 pts. Day Two - 294.09 pts. Total 469.07 points. Very well done.

2. Team Far Cue comprising Chad Zorab, Darren Young and Eamon. Day One - 148.23 pts. Day Two 213.84 pts. Total 362.07 pts.

3. The Mackays comprising Stu Mackay and Lianne Mackay (Jnr). Day One - 205.62 pts. Day Two - 149.67 pts. Total 355.29 pts.

4. Team Simply Wild comprising Peter Vrodjak, Alex Woodley and Kevin McCauley. Total 321.86 pts.

5. Team The Cockerdiles Comprising Stephen, Shannon and Kara (Jnr) Cockeral. Total 261.85 pts.

2016 Angling Licence, Competition Licence Fee, etc.

With the Government fee unit presently at 30 Ngwee the following are the 2016 angling permit fees applicable to our Members:

1. Angling Permit (Recreation) for Persons resident in Zambia:

i. Under 18 per month is 138 units or K41.40

ii. Under 18 per annum is 830 units or K249.00 (round to K250)

iii. Of the age of 18 years and above per month 280 units or K84.00

iv. Of the age of 18 years and above per annum 1,666 units or K499.80 (round to K500.00).

2. Persons not resident in Zambia is 2,800 units or K840

3. Fishing Competitions are 4,160 units per week or K1,248.00 (payable by the Fishing Competition Organisers to Fisheries Department).

Note - ZAWA will charge an ADDITIONAL daily angling fee of US$15 on anglers fishing in National Parks. Having a recreational fishing permit DOES NOT exempt you from this addition ZAWA fee.

To obtain your fishing licence you will need to visit the Fisheries Department in Chilanga with a copy of your ID. They will fill out a bank deposit slip which you then need to take to the Indo-Zambia Branch in Chilanga and deposit your fee(s). Then return with the stamped deposit slip to Fisheries and they will only then issue your recreational angling permit.

How can I pay for my 2017 Membership?

You can deposit directly (in cash or online payment from your account) into the Zambia Sports Fishing Association account as follows'

At a meeting of the Executive Committee on 4th February 2016 it was resolved that the 2016 Membership fees shall be as follows:

1. Adult Individual - K200.00

2. Adult Couple - K300

3. Junior - K100

Please note that these revised fees are applicable from the 2016 AGM onwards. If you pay your 2016 Membership before the upcoming AGM then you'll bag a bargain and pay at 2015 rates!!!!

The 2016 Annual General Meeting shall be held at Lusaka South Country Club on Saturday February 27th 2016 from 1400 hours onwards. All members and prospective members are kindly invited to attend.

Fisheries Department and Inland Waterways have been invited to also attend and issue permits etc.

The question being raised by certain members of the Association was whether an Individual Angling Licence is required in order to participate in Angling competitions in Zambia since venues are already required to possess a ‘blanket’ fishing licence.

The Competition Fee is clearly defined in the Fisheries Act (see below) – and it is the responsibility of the Venue (i.e. Lodge) to pay in addition to their Annual fishing licence as a lodge, hotel, whatever. This is not a fee on the individual angler. In addition, this is NOT THE SAME fee that is demanded by the Zambia Sports Council – which presently stands at K50 per competitor.

For simplicity, and the message that we are trying to convey to both Anglers and Competition Organisers, the break down for a ZSFA sanctioned fishing Competition is as follows:

1. Each and every Zambian Resident or Citizen angler in a fishing competition is legally required to possess an Individual Recreational Angling Licence from Fisheries. They are not covered, nor absolved, from possessing an Individual Angling Licence by the Lodges annual fishing licence nor the lodges Competition Licence.
2. Lodges, hotels, etc. are required to have paid their Annual fishing licence.
3. The venue for the competition is, in addition to their annual fishing licence, required to remit a Competition fee of 417 fee units. ( we understand that 1 fee unit = K1.80 ) Per week of competition – and I have doubts that Fisheries would countenance a part thereof payment (i.e. dividing the number of days for the competition by seven). Even though that would be the legally (and mathematically) correct approach.
4. The Zambia Sports Council charges K50 per competitor. This is normally built into the Entry Fee and collected by the ZSFA for remittance to the Zambia Sports Council.
5. ZAWA charges for Park Entry AND a further angling fishing permit in National Parks in addition to boat motor size, camping levy, vehicle parking . This is the Competitors to pay.

The Act is not as clear as maybe it should be, but as an Association we have a duty of care to ensure that our Members that enter fishing competitions are fully compliant with the Law as it stands.

Simply:

Competitors to Pay

· Annual Angling Licence Recreational to Fisheries
· Zambia Sports Council Competitors Fee
· Membership to ZSFA
· Any applicable ZAWA fees in National Parks

Venue to pay:

· Their Annual Fishing Licence
· Competition Licence at 417 fee units.

We welcome any further comment and debate, but I do hope that the above is clear.

- Boats must be registered with the same Department. Renewal of this registration is required annually (the Department is new pro-active in that it travels to various centres in the country early in the year to facilitate registration. They also attend our AGM for the same purpose.

- Safety equipment to be present in your boat - according to the Surveyor of Vessels:-

Life Jackets - sufficient for all passengers & crew

Fire Extinguisher

First Aid Kit

Paddles

Whistle

Bilge Pump / Bailing Bucket

The ZSFA and the competition organisers working under the auspicies of the ZSFA are obliged to ensure that all boats and their operators meet these requirements when taking part in any ZSFA recognised event. So members - PLEASE ensure that you boat safely and are within the law!!
